New Delhi: The Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Shipping Nitin Jairam Gadkari on Thursday approved the alignment of 550 km long stretch of road from Digha in Bengal to Gopalpur in Odisha as National Highway.
Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan revealed it in a tweet “Grateful to PM & @nitin_gadkariji for approving the alignment of 550 KM Digha-Gopalpur NH in Odisha”.
Both Minister Pradhan and Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram were present at the meeting with Minister Gadkari when the project was approved.
Minister Gadkari during his visit to Odisha last month had announced this proposed coastal road as a National Highway with an estimated project cost of Rs 5000 Crores. According to sources he has also sought cooperation of the Odisha Government for land acquisition. Tenders are likely to be floated for the project only after acquisition of 80 per cent of land needed for the coastal highway, sources added.
