Bhubaneswar: A day after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted by the Chief minister Naveen Patnaik to invesitigate the killings of innocent tribals in a cross fire between security forces and Maoists, the SIT has begun its probe informed the Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh to media persons here in Bhubaneswar.
Singh said, Director, Intelligence, Sunil Roy and IG, Operations, Soumendra Priyadarshi have already reached Kandhamal and are meeting the IG, Southern Range, Amitabh Thakur and local SP Pinak Mishra and taking stock of the reported incident.
Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik held a high-level meeting on Monday with top officials comprising of the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, DGP, Director Intelligence and others and constituted an SIT to investigate into the matter.
After the meeting the Chief Minister had informed the media persons that a thorough and impartial probe into the incident will be conducted and that he has directed an investigation of the case by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the State Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) and will be monitored and supervised by an officer of the rank of Additional Director General (ADG). He also had added that “If anyone is found guilty of negligent conduct after the probe, we shall take stringent action. I have also directed the DGP to have a detailed review and apply required correctives so that such an incident is not repeated in future during anti-Maoist operations.”
