Bhubaneswar: In the early hours on Monday at least 21 naxals including eight women were gunned down in a joint operation carried out by Odisha and Andhra Pradesh Police in Bejangi forest located between Ramgurha and Panasaputa in the of Malkangiri district of Odisha.
Informing the media persons about the operation today Odisha State Director General of Police, KB Singh said that Moaist leader Gajarla Ravi alias Uday carrying a cash reward of Rs 2 lakhs on his head also was killed in the operation. Singh also said, “Odisha Police team approached the spot from the Andhra Pradesh side as it would have been difficult for us to reach the cut-off area from the Odisha side”. He further added that the AP Police took a lead and put in place a special force “Greyhounds” which helped the Odisha police in successfully conducting the operation.
Among the items recovered after the operation were four AK-47 guns, 10 nos of 303 rifles, 2SLRs and a few Maoist kitbags were seized from the spot.
Notably, a joint team of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh police personnel were put into action in the Bejangi forest after a tip-off which said of the presence of their leader Ramakrishna and at least 50-60 naxals in a Maoist camp about 10 Km into Malkangiri from the AP side.
