Bhubaneswar: With the erring servitors still on the run, according to sources Puri Police today moved court seeking warrants to search and arrest the absconding servitors who had committed ruckus during Niladri bije on the night of July 17. These servitors were identified by Puri police after going through from the video footage.
While two servitors Surya Narayan Pratihari and Raghunath Khuntia have been arrested on charges of misbehaving with Puri Collector Arvind Agarwal, others identified by the police threatening to kill the collector are still at large.
The absconding servitors Damodar Mahasuara, Jayakrushna Mahasuara and Harinarayan Khuntia, on Friday have approached the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail.
Notably, the very next day of the incident on July 18, the Singhadwar police station registered criminal cases against the six servitors Damodar Mahasuar, Jaykrushna Mahasura, Saina Khuntia, Ipsit Pratihari, Bhimsen Palankadhari and Rabi Das on the basis of the two complaints filed by Collector Puri.
Police have also identified around 50 other priests, who created the commotion during Niladri Bije and were involved in heckling the collector and assaulted media persons present at the time.
Earlier in the day a group of servitors representing a peace committee had urged upon the authorities not to arrest the servitors involved in manhandling the media persons and heckling the Collector. Sources add that SP of Puri Sarangi has turned down the request and has given ultimatum to the six absconders to surrender search and warrants will be issued and the property of absconders be confiscated.
