Bhubaneswar: The Tripura-cadre Odia IPS officer Joydeep Nayak, who was evading arrest on alleged charges of siphoning-off Rs 88 Lakhs meant for computer education of SC/ST students and self help groups (SHGs) in Odisha, was finally arrested by the Odisha Vigilance sleuths from Ghaziabad on Saturday. Nayak had misappropriated such a huge sum when he was on deputation in the Human Rights Portection Cell (HRPC) of Odisha police.
Nayak was nabbed by a special vigilance team and according to Dr. RP Sharma, Director Vigilance “Nayak is being brought to Odisha on transit remand.”
The Odisha Vigilance department had informed the Tripura government which had immediately initiated action and suspended Nayak from duty on July 6 for breaching service rules. Nayak at that time was the Director, Fire Service department in Tripura.
Nayak had earlier moved to court on June 27 seeking anticipatory bail.
