Odisha Health Minister Resigns Four Days after SUM Hospital Fire Tragedy

Bhubaneswar: The Health Minister of Odisha Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak today on Friday sent in his resignation to the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. It is said to be a fall out after the fire tragedy which occurred in SUM hospital that claimed 25 lives.

After the incident there was a demand from various quarters for the resignation of the health minister. The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government was under tremendous criticism from the opposition parties, media, intellectual and members of the civil societies.

Later in the evening Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik confirmed about the development and informed the media that “Health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak sent his resignation to me on moral grounds. I have accepted this and sent the letter to Governor,”

Reacting on the resignation issue of the opposition both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indian National Congress (INC) claim that the resignation has come after demand from various quarters and it has nothing to do with moral grounds.
