Bhubaneswar: In a tragic accident five persons including a motorcyclist died and over 30 others were injured as a private bus travelling on NH-55 fell off a bridge near Tukuda around 20 Km from Angul.
According to sources the bus heading from Angul to Athmaillik met with the accident when a motorcyclist suddenly came in the front of the bus. The bus driver swerved to save the motorcyclist but unfortunately the bus hit the motorcycle and fell off the bridge killing the biker. Eyewitness account reveals that while the motorcyclist and a bus passenger died on the spot, two others died on the way to hospital and the fifth person died undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Both the local police and district administration rushed to the spot after the incident and shifted the injured to the Angul District Hospital for treatment. District Collector A K Samal informed that 36 injured patients were admitted at the district hospital but 18 seriously injured patients were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief and condolence over the incident. He has also announced Rs 2 Lakhs to the family of the bereaved and free treatment to the injured.
Preliminary inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of accident. According to the Transport minister Ramesh Majhi, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Angul has been asked submit a report after conducting proper inquiry into the accident.
