Bhubaneswar: Manoj Nayak the owner of SUM Hospital was on Friday granted bail by the Khurdha Additional District Judge-II. Earlier Manoj was arrested in connection with the fire tragedy which claimed 29 lives and faced legal proceedings and was sent to jail. Nayak had sought bail after the two-day police remand ended on October 24 and the law enforcement department did not press for further custody.

According to sources the court today granted Nayak conditional bail on a surety bond of Rs 1 lakh and two guarantees. The bail order was reserved after the hearing of his plea ended on Thursday. He has been released from the Special Jail at Jharpada in the city on Friday evening.

Problems for Nayak is far from over since the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is yet to investigate the money laundering case against SUM hospital and Sikshya O Anusandhan Charitable Trust (SOA) charitable trust run by him. Sources say ED have sought details of financial transactions of the university and the hospital from 2005 to 2016.
