Bhubaneswar: After a high level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary A P Padhi and other officials of the energy department in the State secretariat on Friday, it was revealed that all villages in Odisha will be electrified by the end of November this year.
According to Rajesh Verma, principal secretary energy department, around 45,236 villages out of 47,677 villages which is almost 96 percent of the number villages as per 2011 census have so far been electrified by the end of the month of June. Verma said that out of the remaining 2,441 villages to be electrified 541 have been identified as uninhabited.
Reviewing the work done so far the Chief Secretary asked officials to complete the programme within the stipulated time. PGCIL, OPTCL, OREDA and NTPC have been entrusted with the work for quicker implementation. Electrification of 198 villages out of rest 275 villages will be through micro-grid and 76 would be covered through stand alone solar projects by OREDA which will benefit around 12,000 households.
