Bhubaneswar: Controversy has become synonymous with the Rath Yatra every year. The latest being a girl found climbing on to Nandighosh, the chariot of Lord Jagannath. Within hours after the controversy erupted displeasure among the devotees the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) came out with a clarification that the girl on the chariot is a relative of a temple servitor.
The public relations officer of SJTA Laxmidhar Pujapanda talking to reporters said the girl aged about 12-13 years is a relative of a temple servitor and had climbed the chariot along with her father.
Backing the version of the SJTA PRO, the Superintendent of Police, Puri, Sarthak Sarangi said that there is no ban on servitors and their family to climb on the chariot. He also reiterated that police will investigate the camera footage and and initiate necessary action against the person whosoever has violated the law.
Similar incident has occurred the previous year during the Rath Yatra which had raised a controversy.
