Bhubaneswar: Infant mortality due to malnutrition at Nagada village in Jajpur district of Odisha has drawn flak from all quarters, especially the opposition Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) and the Congress Party blamed the Naveen Patnaik led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government for its failure to curb infant mortality. The scenario came to light after reports came in that 18 infants died allegedly due to malnutrition over the past three months particularly in the same village in the mining district of Jajpur.
After the reports were highlighted in the media the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday reacted over the issue by forming a task force. Talking to media persons present at the state secretariat he said “The task force will also see that such incidents do not recur.”
In the meanwhile, senior official from state agriculture department PK Meherda and Task force nodal officer Manoj Ahuja have visited and enquired about the condition of 19 malnourished kids undergoing treatment at the Kaliapani hospital.
