Bhubaneswar: In continuation of the celebrations of the birth centenary of Biju Patnaik who also happens to be one of the tallest leaders of the State, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated and dedicated 100 new godowns to the state through video conference here at the State Secretariat.
The godowns are said to be constructed at the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) level by the Cooperation Department for conservation of fertilisers, seeds and storage of paddy having a cumulative capacity of 41,425 MT.
The Chief Minister also distributed mobile phones to 10 women Kisan Credit Card holders and under this programme another 41,000 free mobile phones will be distributed to Women Kisan Credit Card holders.
Speaking on the occasion CM Patnaik said, “today in continuation of our pro-farmer policies 100 godowns of 41,400 metric tonne capacity were dedicated. Besides, distribution of mobile phones to 41,000 women engaged in farming sector was also started to enable them to start a better access to agri information and agri marketing”.
Cooperation and Excise Minister Damodar Rout also informed that soon five hundred more godowns will be constructed and these newly constructed godowns will help the PACSs in enhancing capacity building.
The Cooperation Department through these programmes will strengthen the PACS and meet the requirements of the farming community, including dispensation of agriculture credit, storage and distribution of fertilisers and seeds and procurement of surplus agricultural produces at minimum selling price (MSP).
Also present in the meeting were Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy, Finance Minister Pradeep Amat, MLAs and Secretaries of various departments.
