Bhubaneswar: In a sudden turn of events on the run Dr. Motilal Gouda, the former assistant director of the Directorate of Factories & Boilers, was arrested by Odisha Police on Sunday from Andhra Pradesh.
This was confirmed by Special DG Crime B. K. Sharma in presence of media persons today. He said that Arun Bothra IG, Economic Offence Wing had constituted a team which was on Dr. Gouda’s trail for the past 4 days. The team raided various place in Vishakhapatnam and Vizianagram in Andhra Pradesh and finally arrested Dr Gouda. He is being brought back to Odisha and very soon will be produced before a magistrate. Odisha police will try to bring him remand for further questioning, Sharma added.
Dr. Gouda had made headlines over the past few days after he was dismissed from service on charges of issuing fake gazette notification ordering engagement of five private labs for pre-employment health check-up of factories and industries. Prior to that Gouda was serving as a Medical officer in the state government’s health department and was sacked from his job in November 2015 on the charges of unauthorised absence from duty for a longer period of time.
Dr Gouda was on the run over the past fortnight while his plea for an anticipatory bail was rejected by the Orissa High Court on June 24.
In the meantime, Vigilance department had also conducted raids on Saturday at Gouda’s residences and commercial establishments which revealed that he has amassed wealth and assets illegally disproportionate to his income.
