Three NIFT Students Drown in Mahanadi River

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident 3 students of NIFT Bhubaneswar have drowned while taking bath in Mahanadi River at Gadagadia Ghat in Cuttack city on Tuesday afternoon. The bodies have been identified as those of Srusti Pal, Sandeep Kumar and Pritam Priyadarshi students of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Bhubaneswar.

According to sources, four students of NIFT, two from third year class and two from fourth year class had gone on a trip to Cuttack and decided to take bath at the Gadagadia Ghat. While the four were bathing one student came out to the river bank while the three slipped into deep water and were swept away. Locals present tried to rescue the students but it was not possible.

Later a joint rescue operation was conducted by fire brigade personnel and ODRAF team to rescue them. After an hour-long search operation, the bodies of the three students were recovered. One of the students was found dead but the other two were rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital where the doctors pronounced them ‘brought dead’. The deceased students hail from Kolkata, Ranchi and Delhi, sources added.
