Roadmap for Fire Safety Measures at Hospitals after Fire Broke out in SUM Hospital in Odisha

New Delhi: The Minister of State Health & Family Welfare, Faggan Singh Kulaste stated in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha here on Tuesday that though health is a State subject and as such no such information is maintained centrally. However, there are news reports of some fire incidents in hospitals in various States.

However, this Ministry has taken note of recent fire incident in a private hospital in the State of Odisha, the Ministry has issued advisory to all State/UTs on October 21, 2016 and also circulated provisions on fire safety in the Unified Building Bye laws 2016, Delhi and National Building Code for guidance or reference.

As informed by National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare  (NABH), NABH accredited hospitals are required to fulfill fire safety measures as per the Government  rules and regulations.   NABH has also informed that as on November 25, 2016 only 510 hospitals are NABH accredited.
