Dhenkanal Rape Accused Arrested; Victim Shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital

Bhubaneswar: The accused of the gruesome rape incident which took place in Dhenkanal has been arrested by the local police on Thursday. According to sources police is questioning the accused Sibashis Mohanty, who also happens to be the lover of the young girl and was alleged by the victim of having raped her. The accused belongs to Gandia area of Dhenkanal district.

The shocking incident of rape was reported after some local people spotted a young girl lying semi-conscious in the forest near the Dhenkanal by-pass road. Police reached the scene rescued the girl after informed by the local people and admitted her in the Dhenkanal district headquarter hospital. The girl was in trauma since the rapist after committing rape had also brutally attacked the victim. The incident had taken place on Monday but the girl was discovered on Wednesday.

Later in the evening the girl was able to give a statement to the police and named the rapist as Sibashis Mohanty who also happened to be her lover.

In her statement the victim girl alleged that, “he called me to the forest around 4:30 PM on Monday. Then raped, attacked and dumped me there”.

She had also revealed that the accused belonged to Gondia area of Dhenkanal. Based on the information obtained by police, a manhunt was launched and the accused was nabbed today and furthering questioning is in progress.

In the meantime the victim has been shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack from the Dhenkanal on Thursday for better treatment.

 

Odisha: Hi-tech Group Properties to be Confiscated Orders State Government

Bhubaneswar: After the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch had seized the properties of the Hi-Tech Group and recommended confiscation, the Finance department of the Odisha State government on Wednesday ordered the confiscation of properties belonging to the Hi-Tech Group in connection with fraud committed in land deals.

Among the properties seized are the Hi-Tech group’s corporate office at Sahid Nagar, the medical and dental college which the group runs and acres of land that belong to the group in various places in Bhubaneswar. The group had already deposited Rs 63 crores at the Supreme Court which got the Hi-Tech group chairman released on bail. Today’s confiscation as sources reveal is valued at around Rs 100 crores.

Odisha: Special Court Orders 5 years Sentence to Chit Fund Company MD

Bhubaneswar: In the first conviction of ongoing chit funds cases the Special Chit Fund court in Cuttack on Tuesday sentenced the Managing Director of Shirdi Sai Real Estate Private Limited chit fund company to 5 years jail term.

Prakash Chandra Panda, MD of the chit fund firm along with 5 years of jail and ordered him to pay Rs 3 lakh as fine.

Panda was arrested by Economic Affairs Wing (EOW) for duping investors money and case was registered and finally convicted by the Special Court.

Odisha: Court Grants Bail to Manoj Nayak of SUM Hospital; ED Investigation Still Looms

Bhubaneswar: Manoj Nayak the owner of SUM Hospital was on Friday granted bail by the Khurdha Additional District Judge-II. Earlier Manoj was arrested in connection with the fire tragedy which claimed 29 lives and faced legal proceedings and was sent to jail. Nayak had sought bail after the two-day police remand ended on October 24 and the law enforcement department did not press for further custody.

According to sources the court today granted Nayak conditional bail on a surety bond of Rs 1 lakh and two guarantees. The bail order was reserved after the hearing of his plea ended on Thursday. He has been released from the Special Jail at Jharpada in the city on Friday evening.

Problems for Nayak is far from over since the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is yet to investigate the money laundering case against SUM hospital and Sikshya O Anusandhan Charitable Trust (SOA) charitable trust run by him. Sources say ED have sought details of financial transactions of the university and the hospital from 2005 to 2016.

Security Forces Gun Down 21 Naxals in Odisha and AP Joint Operation

Bhubaneswar: In the early hours on Monday at least 21 naxals including eight women were gunned down in a joint operation carried out by Odisha and Andhra Pradesh Police in Bejangi forest located between Ramgurha and Panasaputa in the of Malkangiri district of Odisha.

Informing the media persons about the operation today Odisha State Director General of Police, KB Singh said that Moaist leader Gajarla Ravi alias Uday carrying a cash reward of Rs 2 lakhs on his head also was killed in the operation. Singh also said, “Odisha Police team approached the spot from the Andhra Pradesh side as it would have been difficult for us to reach the cut-off area from the Odisha side”. He further added that the AP Police took a lead and put in place a special force “Greyhounds” which helped the Odisha police in successfully conducting the operation.

Among the items recovered after the operation were four AK-47 guns, 10 nos of 303 rifles, 2SLRs and a few Maoist kitbags were seized from the spot.

Notably, a joint team of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh police personnel were put into action in the Bejangi forest after a  tip-off which said of the presence of their leader Ramakrishna and at least 50-60 naxals in a Maoist camp about 10 Km into Malkangiri from the AP side.
